Pair of Birds and Update 6-6-13

Sharing a photo; this pair of birds made a nest in a wreath on our front porch. Each time we open the door they fly away.
My mother called her sister, she said these birds are house finch.

Update photo 6-3-13
Last week we saw 4 tiny birds with little fuss on their heads, I took my first photo this morning, wow, in just a few short days they now have feathers.
I've deleted the icky stuff around the nest. Birds don't clean house.

Update 6-5-13
Today we saw five birds! They are getting too big for their small nest on top of my wreath.
Update 6-6-13
Opened the door this morning, the birds were gone. I missed seeing them fly away, we pulled down the wreath and threw it away.

Gelli Printing Journal Page

Sharing something I made while watching the news
about the tornado that hit Moore, OK on the 20th of May.
Gelli papers were worn and applied on the journal page, and then Tim Holtz distress paint, Dyan's Dylusions Stamps, Dylusions Spray inks, Heidi swapp stencil with modeling paste was added to page.
Punches holes were made in the Gelli paper before applying to journal page.
The figure is from my imagination drawn with a pencil and painted
with watercolors and Pitt artist pens before applying to journal page.
Circles were made with lid and distress paint.
This was my project for Technique Tuesday over on Crafting with OWSE

Finished page 7 x 10 inches

Below is what the page above looked like before I started using Tim's Distress Paints, stamps and spray inks, stencils and modeling paste.
I haven't finished the left side of journal page.

Steampunk Tin

Welcome to my blog this is my projects using Helmar and Viva Las VegaStamps!

Visit both blogs May 20-24th for new tips and tricks!

I was down with my Mother for the weekend, she opened a large tin with a can opener that left no sharp edges, instead of tin going into the recycle bin I used these fabulous products from Helmar and VLVS images to create this Steampunk Tin.
To remove some of the shiny finish from the tin it was painted with a solution of vinegar and salt, after four days to dulling the tin, it was rinsed in water and dried. Miracle Tape was used to apply a trimmed piece of white card stock to fit around tin covering the ridges. Antiquing solution was applied to distress the tin and card stock. A couple days of drying outside due to the odor from the antiquing, it was dry brushed with Golden Teal acrylic paint.
When paint was dry, an un-mounted image; Nesting Gears was used with Archival black ink to stamp around the tin and set aside to dry.

Stamp Men in Balloon BasketFlying Bird and Flying Man with black archival ink on copy paper. Color with distress markers. Cut-out.

Using direction on Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste container, apply a thin film of Decoupage Paste with craft brush where you want the trimmed images, add the images one at a time and then go over the top of image with thin film of Decoupage Paste again. Before the glue dries, remove the extra paste with white vinegar per instructions on container.
Note: glue dries fast, for best results do one image at a time.
Set aside to dry.
Time Flies and Destination Unknown was added around tin using Archival black ink.
Inside and bottom of tin was painted with Golden Teal Acrylic paint. Set aside to dry.

Cover lid with a generous amount of Craft and Hobby PVA Glue, apply nylon three ply yarn in a spiral coil, leave a small hole in center, insert vintage wooden knob in glue, let dry.

I'm very pleased with the results, the Decoupage and craft paste left a smooth finish across the surface. I've had a request to make one for my granddaughter, she wants to use it to hold matches on her mantle.

Thanks for looking at this tutorial using the recycled tin.

Have a nice day!

12 Tags of 2013 May

This has been one of those months when something keep getting in the way to make my May tag. After getting started today, I enjoyed playing with the supplies I had. I've had the stamp set Tim used for many years and was thrilled to see what he did with it. I have the new strip die and made mine using some designer paper, I was going to use the dark side of the paper and then turned it over and discovered the paper matched the tag. I spent about three hours looking for the film, I know it's around here somewhere. (
I used Tim's Remnant Rubs, distress stains, word band, Tim Holtz stamps, mini filmstrip die cut and his tag die to make the tag.  The only thing that was not Tim's; the screw brads and designer paper with mimi filmstrip die cut.

Just because

This card was made with left over Gelli paper from the card above; it was almost tossed in trash until I saw a scene and stamped the words Just because.
I love finding images in my acrylic painted paper from my Gelli Printing Plate.
Do you see a scene?

Thank you for stopping by.
