Exploring Art Materials

I would like to share with you artwork from viewing;
Exploring Art Materials  DVD by Mary Jo McGraw How to get more from what you already have. The menu option plays each one of the segments in art materials and projects so you can stop and start as many times as you like. While I have never been in a class with MaryJo, this DVD is like getting a front row seat as she teaches how to do each one of these projects. This DVD is professionally done through PageSage.
MaryJo takes the mystery out of eight products and demonstrates different ways to use fine art supplies that you may have in your stash. Here is a list of materials that you will learn how to use:
Gel and Glazing Mediums
Gesso, Acrylic Paints
Glues, Wax and Polish
Dry Masking, Pigments
MaryJo shows seven projects and lots of variations are shown in a Mini Gallery after each project. Here is a list of the projects that she demonstrates.
Again Affects
Faux Burl Wood
Coasters Makeover
Textured Tissue Box
Alerted Book Cover
Veiled Illusions
Creative Layers
MaryJo's finale piece is a combination of all the projects shown on this DVD. I was in awe when I first saw this project she calls; "Creative Layers."
While MaryJo uses a vintage photo in her project, I used a copy of my mother and my brother. I made this piece for my mother when she celebrated her 80th birthday.
Here is my example:

MaryJo shares more than 50 wonderful photographs of her artwork on this DVD. When you see a project, you can jump directly to the technique or project that inspires you with a touch of the button. I really like how you can stop and start as many times as you like. I hope you will add this DVD to your library.
Thank you for stopping my blog. Have a Nice Day!

Gelli Arts Printing Envelopes

Last week I purchased "the Kreate-a-lope." I have a stash of Gelli Arts Printing papers and had fun making these envelopes.  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
You can move the template anywhere you want on the paper, it's easy to use since you don't need scissors, you just tear.

Update January 3, 2016, with help from a stamping friend, Debbie she found me an online tutorial for a tried and true envelope glue.

A Time to Remember, Receive and Rejoice!

Sharing this simple little snow scene card with a quote outside and inside. The top stamped swirl was inked in black memento and then I went over the design with a gold gel pen. Watercolors were used to add color to the village and a tiny bit of distress glitter was applied over trees, snow and roof using a glue pen.
Finished card: 41/4"x 5 1/2"

Angelic Card

White card stock was used to die cut TH angelic bigz die. Distress ink was used to color trumpet and wings. Tim's distress glitter was applied to wet glossy accents on the wings. I like using this glitter because once it dries is doesn't rub off. Add angel to trimmed handmade paper that was applied to a folded beige card. One of my sentiments was inked and stamped inside of card.
Finished card 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Thanks for Looking and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

12 Tags of 2015 ~ December

I had a lot of fun working on my tags this year following Tim's techniques for 12 Tags of 2015. I hope he continues next year.
I followed along on this tag using Tim's background technique, stenciled burlap, distress inked edges, alcohol inking star, using Chit Chat, sanding kraft-core, and then finished my tag using a TH angelic bigz die.
I applied a white angelic die cut under Kraft-core angelic die cut. (I off-set the white die cut just a little bit to balance the white trumpet.)
Glossy Accents was used to apply images to burlap and to add a glossy finish to trumpet.

You can view Tim's beautiful tag here: http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2015-december/

Blooming Flowers

If you read my last blog post you read how much I loved my flower garden this year. I took lots of photos from the start to the end of my flowers growing season. These are some of my flowers. The Geranium and Mandevilla are still alive and thriving. The zinnias were replaced with pansies last month.
When this photo was taken the zinnia were near the end of there blooming cycle. After removing the older plants, I noticed many baby zinnia plants coming up. All during the blooming season, I broke off older blooms, some blooms feel onto the soil.

Mini-Album Flower Book

This mini book was made using my Zutter tool, lots of stamps, inks, paint, H20's and other supplies from my stash. I love making mini-books.

I really enjoyed my real flower garden this year.
I had beautiful blooms all summer until we started having cool nights late October, these were pulled and lots of pansies were planted. My mother said I must have a green thumb. I told her it was the rich soil we put in the flower garden, in a little area about 8' x 8' my hubby and granddaughter dumped 5 bags of manure and 10 bags of top soil and then during the summer I added epson salt mixed with water to the soil. I didn't let any of the water touch the petals.
All through the summer, I had roses, petunia, marigolds, zinnia, sweet potato plants, shasta daises, ice plant, vinca, geranium, verbena, cypress, cardinal vine, mandevilla hanging plant and Boston fern hanging plant.
We have had very cold freezing weather over the last week with ice and freezing rain the last few days and still some of these plants are hanging on, My pansies will live into springtime. I can't believe the Boston fern on the porch, vinca near the house, petunias and ice plant in my flower garden are still hanging on and new blooms coming out during this cold weather. I went out in the cold freezing rain this past Thursday and brought in the mandevilla and geranium plants. They are doing well and new blooms are coming out.

Thank you for looking and have a very nice day!

12 Tags of 2015 - November

Yeah! I finished my 12 Tags of 2015 ~ November tag today. I used what Tim Holtz supplies I had in my stash along with other supplies.
My background stamp looks a bit busy but I really like how it turned out on this tag. I used copper leaf on edges of tag. Xyron was used to apply adhesive to cork and then die cut using Block Talk alphabet. Distress markers were used to color pumpkins. Distress ink was used to color cork and trim. Tim's Air Spritzer was used with black Distress marker on pumpkins.

Christmas Cards

I've been working on Christmas Cards over the last few weeks after I completed my journals from free online class by Carolyn Dube.
I'm keeping my cards pretty simple this year; I used TH festive gent die and TH music stamp. The gent was die cut with black card stock and a red and green card stock was used to die cut wreath and scarf and then applied to gent. Rock candy stickles was added to wreath and scarf and heat set to dry.
A sentiment was stamped inside of card.
I've also made a few cards with TH angelic die and TH victorian carolers die.

Coloring Challenge Day 30 ~ ATC

ATC

Today is my last day of The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge; each day I made and posted a card, tag and today an ATC.

My ATC was made using the letter A from a set of unmounted stamps I bought years ago from The Stampsmith. Copic markers were used to color the lady image with A; and then I inked an image by HeroArts with memento black ink using a masking technique.

E00 Copic marker was used to color background stamped image and then tea dye distress ink was applied to edges to finish.

I enjoyed sharing here on my blog and on Kathy's blog during the last 30 day although I don't know if I could keep it up very much longer.

Coloring Challenge Day 29 ~ Bountiful Season

My basket stamp was inked twice with black memento on heavy duty neenah card stock, Copic markers were used to color both baskets, one was set aside, the second basket rim with handle was fussy cut and applied to first basket using 3-d dots.
The trio of pumpkins were inked with black memento on neenah paper, copic sketch markers were used to color, fussy cut and then glossy accents was used to adhere to basket. Set this aside.
One of Tim's embossing folders was distress inked, 4"x 5 1/4" card stock was added and then embossed. Additional distress ink was applied to the textured card stock and then adhere to folded card.
Stamp quote with clear embossing on trimmed piece of neenah paper, next add black embossing powder over inked quote, tapping excess off and heat set. Copic markers were used to color leaves. Distress inks were used to tone down white paper. Glossy accents was used to apply sentiment to card. Glossy Accents was used to apply embossed card front to folded card to finish.

Here is Tim's 12 Tags of 2015 for October: http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2015-october/

It's been a busy month on my blog, for the last 28 days, I've been making a card or tag during a 30 day coloring challenge. Each day, I was going to take time to do my October tag but something seemed to come up each day. It's been hectic around here. This afternoon while it was quiet in the house I made my tag for 12 Day of 2015 October. Yeah!

Coloring Challenge Day 28 ~ A Warm Hello

Coloring Challenge Day 28

plus RV 21 and C0

Remember a few days ago, Kathy did a piece using grey and green Copics, on that day I made a few addition pieces and set those aside. Today, I picked up one of the flower images and decided it needed a little bit more color, so I had Copics RV21 in the center and blended it with C0. I love it!
This sentiment from Hero Arts is always near my craft table when making a quick card.
My card was finished with black card stock, spellbinder die cut and then added to my folded card. Tiny satin ribbon was tied to fold of card to finish.

Coloring Challenge Day 27 ~ Fall Wreath

I used a spellbinder die to cut out my Copic colored fall wreath and then used my square die to cut out an orange piece of card stock. Both pieces were glued to a half folded card and tiny gold string was tied on fold to finish.
Now looking at it, I wish I had tried a different color to compliment the fall wreath. It's been a hectic day and getting this card finished for Coloring Challenge Day 27.

Coloring Challenge Day 25 ~ Gray Roses

Kathy shared using grey on her flowers, that is a new technique for me. First I colored tulips, next daisies, and then roses, I like the roses best of all and will use them as my coloring challenge day 25.
I used two die cuts, two stamps and these Copic sketch makers on this card front.

Coloring Challenge Day 24 ~ Catfish :-)

I was inspired to make this card today after I saw Kathy used a cat for her Coloring challenge Day 24.
My playful cat is holding fish; that is why I named it catfish!
I used Copic Markers G12, G24, G29, G85, Y17, Y26, E19, C2, 0, and the E29 was found on table after photo.

Thanks for Looking and have a nice day!

Coloring Challenge Day 22 ~ You Make Life Sweet

This morning I used Copic sketch markers to color the hollyhocks stamped image on Neenah paper, and then allergies and dry eye syndrome kept me from finishing my card till this evening. My hollyhock stamp purchased years ago is the perfect size to use with ATCs or mat to make a card like I made today. My tiny sentiment was inked with Memento on Neenah paper and then applied to pink dotted ribbon. Light pink folded card stock was used to finish my card.
These are the Copic sketch markers, ink pad and rubber stamps used on my card:
