I enjoyed seeing Tim's tag for April!

I'm late with this month's tag. 

I made the base of the tag weeks ago using TH supplies from my stash.

 Last week I purchased my first bottle of Distress Paint; Broken China and used it on the metal pieces of tag today. 

Plastic portion of butterfly was made with clear plastic from Tim's packages and heat set. 

Ranger/ Tim Holtz supplies minus the two lock washers were used on this tag.

Finger Painting Journal Page

Sharing what I made from custom made paper in a jar with Golden paints, a little H20's and die cuts.

The paper perfect was spread over my journal page with a pallet knife and evenly spread over plastic film for a small sheet of perfect paper.
It took over night on the journal page to dry, but it's now three days later and the paper on plastic film is still moist in the middle. With humidity in the air it's taking longer to dry. 


Impatiently waiting, on the fourth day, I gently started peeling the handmade paper off the plastic film and was able to remove the paper with just a few tears. I don't think this will be a problem when I die cut three mini tattered flowers. The handmade paper looks rough on top and smooth on bottom. 

First I'll show you the die cut flowers. I started painting with H20's and realized the color wasn't dark enough for the project I had planned to do with the journal page, so I finger painted all the flowers with Golden liquid Quinacridone Magenta paint over the H20's. The color is beautiful with the highlights of the H20's underneath. 

The journal page was painted with Golden gesso over the perfect paper and then finger painted with Golden paint mixed with Golden Matte Medium. 
I used Golden liquid paints in these colors; Ultramarine blue, Yellow ochre, Jenkins green, Turquois (Phthalo), Quinacridone Magenta fluid acrylic paint, and Golden Colbalt teal acrylic paint. 
[Using the matte medium extends the color and decreases the gloss.] 
After the paint dried on journal page, the flowers were applied using glue n' seal.
Golden Jenkins green was used with an old credit card to make stems for flowers.  
Inspire from Tim Holtz word play alphabet die was die cut with chipboard and then painted with Golden Colbalt Teal acrylic paint. I used a foam applicator with vintage distress ink to grunge edges of each letter before applying to page.
I wish you could feel the texture on this page. It's rough from the handmade paper but soft from the paint! 
I love this page! 
If you have one of those Craft scrubbie this is the time to use it, all the paint came off my fingers with just a little bit of liquid soap.

Gelli Printing Again

Bloggers, I'll share the results from a page I made today using my Gelli Arts Printing Plate with die cuts from Silhouette digital craft cutter and Sizzix.

Previous paints were on the plate before adding the blue acrylic paint with die cuts. This is a transfer with mono printing all on one page. 

I love the surprising results. 

I've collected all the pages made with my Gelli Plate to make into a journal. This one might be left as is or used as a cover page.

Steampunk ATC

Playing with an envelope die along with Viva Las VegaStamps! and Graphic 45. 

This is an ATC I made to fit inside the mini-envelope with the VLVS saying; Steampunk along with Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante Collection. 

I'll share the mini-envelope bind it all book at a later time.

A 6 x 6" diamond stencil was used with Dylusions spray ink on a manila tag. While still wet I let some of the spray ink run. Set this aside to dry. Stamp the Be Adorable image with Memento black on white card stock, trim close, use distress ink to frame piece. Apply MiracleTape to Be Adorable and then adhere to tag. Stamp Boy in Cape with Memento black on white paper, cut close. Color image with Copic Markers. Color cut edges around Boy in Cape with black marker. Be careful not to add any color to front. Apply tiny 3-D foam dots to back of Boy in Cape image and then adhere to tag. InkChevron Banner  image with Memento black ink and stamp on tag.  Add two line stickers down left side of tag. Spray seam binding with Dylusions, wrinkle up, set aside to dry. Apply to tag.

Gelli Printing Paper

I bought my 8 x 10 inch Gelli Printing Plate after seeing how much fun I had with the gelatin plate. This is one of my favorite pages made April 1st, this is the last page of the day, it had paints left on the printing plate with white as a last color and this what I got. I can't wait to do something with it.

BTW, if you have a Tuesday Morning near by they have white paper 75 sheets for $2.49. It is fabulous for Gelli Printing and such a nice smooth finish. I picked up another package today. They still had a bunch in Stillwater, Ok.  

Clearsnap and VLVS

I had so much fun using these supplies I made two tags! 

I was supplied Clearsnap Archival Dye in these colors; Glacier Lake and Wicked Black with Smooch pearlized accent ink; Pumpkin and Sassy Pink 
and from my stash: Smooch Gold Lame.

Additional supplies: May Arts ribbon, Paper Studio ribbon, Ultra Clear Embossing Powder, Embossing folder and TH tissue tape.

Gelatin Printing

I'm having a blast making my own masks, stencils and playing with my own homemade gelatin plate. Yes, someday I want to purchase the real Gelli Arts Plate, but right now, I'm having fun with this one. 

I made my gelatin plate about three weeks ago using 8 packages of Knox unflavored gelatin with 1 1/2 cups of cold water and 1 1/2 cups of boiling water. My printing plate was made with two boxes. Each box cost $1.25 + taxes at Walmart.

I've used my gelatin plate almost everyday for the past 3 weeks. When I'm ready to paint, I place my gelatin plate on an 8 x 10" piece of plated glass, when I'm thru painting, I remove the paint with baby wipes and then store it covered in refrigerator in the container I molded it in. 
I found the perfect size, it's a plastic lid with 1" side, 6.5" x 8.5." I love this size, it makes the gel plate 3/4" thick. It comes out of the lid with ease. 

For best results used a shallow pan that has straight sides. 

My gelatin plate has been remelted 4 times before finding the right side of mold. You can tear the gelatin into chunk into a glass pyrex bowl and microwave for one minute full power and then slowly pour back into the container. It must be on a leave surface and left until set and then place into the refrigerator over night or until firm. 

Do not try to move liquid gelatin. 


I'm using my Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter with .007 film or white card stock to make my own mask and stencils. Both work perfect.

The paint I've use; Eco Green or Golden Liquid acrylics. 
I didn't care for the bottle type of acrylic paints. I found out today, some tube paints will stain the gelatin plate.

When I took my gelatin plate to my mothers we used her Liquitex acrylic paint. It did real well but requires a lot of cleaning to remove the paint from the plate.

Note: on Facebook they say if you have a real Gelli Plate don't use glossy paper because it will damage your Gelli Plate. 

12 Tags of 2013 March #2

This is my second 12 tags of 2013 for March, I made this tag using Tim's mini bunny, tag and labels dies.
Glitter piece in the cut-out. Grass from my Silhouette. Flowers from Tim's idea-ology were painted with acrylic paints, Zots to raise the labels die, stamps and ribbons from stash.
I had fun making the background using eco green paints with my homemade gelatin printing plate.

12 Tags of 2013 ~ MARCH

  I'm submitting this tag for my 12 Tags of 2013 for March. 

I used a regular pair of scissors to cut my grass. I used inked and stamped eggs, rabbit and quote from my mothers stash of supplies. 

I used Tim's distress inks along with Smooch ink on rabbits bow.

Mixed Collage

Just playing around on this piece, I used stamps I haven't touched in months along with Dyan's spray in, stencils and Tim's cupid mini die cut with gold embossing. Smooch pearlized ink was used on some of the flowers. 

Scribble Drawing

On OWSE chat Thursday night, Robyn ask us to close our eyes, and with a pencil, scribble on our paper without lifting our pencil off the paper while scribbling. 

Robyn said some of the lines could be erased or added. I added a balloon. From my drawing I saw a bird.

I was about ready to tear out this page and throw in the trash after spending two hours trying to remove the masking fluid but I liked the background.
We had to use at least 3 paints, I used; pyrrole red, permanent violet dark, cobalt teal, ultramarine blue, raw sienna, yellow ochre, hansa yellow medium, iridescent bronze (fine), white, micaceous iron oxide and jenkins green Golden Fluid Paints.

 I know it needs more to fill in but I'm calling this piece finished for now. I'm going to sit back and look at it and decide was else it needs.

Mini-Book

Recently I was down visiting my mother, I brought down my Zutter binding tool and many of my stamping supplies. This is my book. Mother made a 6 x 6." 

We both used the Clock die on the cover page. 

The front needs a little more work. (More die-cuts)

Covers:

Cut chipboard (or cereal boxes) for front and back covers: 5 1/2" x 8"

I used Kraft paper for my covers. You can purchase this in by the yard joining the club. 

Wad the Kraft paper in a ball, smooth out and wad up again, smooth out, this will soften the paper. Place Kraft paper over chipboard, cut two pieces 7 1/2" x 10." Apply glue stick, gel medium or glue n' seal to front of chipboard apply Kraft paper over the chipboard, smooth to get a good fit. Turn over to inside of cover and trim corner, add more glue on back of chipboard, pull excess of Kraft paper around to a smooth fit. Cover inside of cover with a trimmed piece of your choice of paper, I used the same paper as the pages.

Add distress ink to give an antique look to covers. 

Die cut clock with chipboard, die cut spellbinder die gear, distress with ink, paint clock hands with black paint, glue clock, gear and hands to front cover with glue n' seal.

Complete the back cover of journal the same leaving it blank on back.

Pages:

Use paper trimmer to cut pages for the mini-book, adjust the paper shorter in length. I've made many books over the years, the pages will extend from book if not trimmed. 

Finish book using your choice of binding.
I used my Zutter tool for my mini book.

Tim's Tattered Floral Challenge

Flower for Tim's Tattered Floral Challenge! 

I made my challenge piece into a pin for my denim jacket. I used Tim's dabber paints along with grungepaper, tissue wrap and a loose weave material that was tinted with walnut ink between the layers of Tattered Floral flower die cuts.
I used a self adhesive pin back on this flower pin. Screw brad was painted with dabber paints.

This morning I painted a full piece of 6 x 12" grungepaper using the dabber paints. After making the first pin above I set the grungepaper aside and this evening after making tamales, I completed another floral piece using Tim's tattered floral die. One layer was made with Kraft glassine. The center was made with a die cut button. To add sheen, I used Distress Stickles Clear Rock Candy.

Hello World

 I got out my Copic air brushing system to color this cute little girl with cat from VLVS. The quote also from VLVS was inked with Memento. The banner was inked, stamped, cut out and turned over. Now, it looks like a die cut.
I bought the designer paper last weekend at Tuesday Morning. No name on back to give credit.

Valentine Tag

I made this sweet little tag for my Valentine using Tim Holtz die-cuts distress ink and stamps.

Archival black was used to ink Tim Holtz stamp. Barn door was used to distress around the tag. Grungeboard die cut heart was inked with barn door and then covered with glossy accents. Tim's TF embossing folder was used on red distress Kraft-core and then sanded before running cupid die through Vagabond. Ting tag was die cut and stamped and wired to tag. Inside of tag: To My Valentine. Bling purchase from Michaels was added to tag. 'The tag was made with manila card stock.

Folded piece was made from a 4"x 8" tag. 

Flowers Say Hello from the Heart

I'm sharing this tutorial I made in 2005.

My Flower Book was made with one sheet of natural color regular weight cardstock. It was constructed by folding the cardstock in half lengthwise. Press it with a bone folder, opened it up, fold crosswise, press with bone folder, open it up again. Now bringing both lengths of cardstock to center fold, press again with the bone folder.
There are now eight scored rectangle panels on the sheet of cardstock, place sheet of scored cardstock down on a cutting mat, using a craft knife and a metal ruler as a guide cut through the center four panels where it is scored, all the way to the edge, leaving each end panels connected, (it should have a cut hole down the center of the four panels), now fold the cardstock lengthwise, with the folded edge up, hold each end near folded edge of cardstock, push to the center fold until it stops, the newly formed pages will pop out to center fold,  press the new pages again with a bone folder, there are now eight pages to decorate, the front page and last page of the book will be doubled. The top left side of the card-stock will be your Front Page.
Front Page.

Pick one side to be the back, on this side, stamp (Pansy Portrait) two times with Memories Black down the center four panels. Making sure that the stamped image is close to the top center. Chalk (Craft Pizazz) was used to color the pansy. Seal with matte spray (Krylon Matte Finish). After finishing the inside of the book, fold the cardstock lengthwise, seal the two end pages together with super tape leaving the center four panels open.

The Cover page: Apply green handmade paper with Click n Stick tape to cover page. The flower quote (Flower Say Hello) was inked with Burnt Sienna on glossy cardstock. Mat the quote with coordinating cardstock, apply to the front page. Use pink watercolor crayons (Lyra) to color a small piece of glossy cardstock. Burnt Sienna was used to stamp the (Tiny Jubilee Dots) on the pink glossy cardstock, a flower paper punch (EK Success) was used to make the flowers, apply to front page with adhesive photo stickers.

The First page: Lightly dry brush Sun Flower and Raw Sienna on first two panels.  I stamped the (Parrot Tulip) with Burnt Sienna on glossy cardstock, watercolor crayons with used to color the image. Place coordinating cardstock to matt the finished watercolor card, apply to the page with adhesive photo stickers.

The Second page: I stamped the (Big Iris) with Burnt Sienna on glossy cardstock, watercolor crayons and H20's were used to color the image. Attach coordinated cardstock to matt the finished card, attach stickers to back, apply to page on book.

The Third page: I stamped (Jubilee Tiny Dots) with soft rose over the page. Using glossy cardstock I stamped (Garden Flower Sketch) with Burnt Sienna, watercolor crayons (Lyra) were used to color the image. Attach a piece of coordinated mat behind the finished flower design, attach adhesive sticker to back, apply to book.. Take a small piece of glossy cardstock to stamp the quote (Moments Remembered) with Burnt Sienna, trim with Fiskars Paper Edges, matt with same color as the card, apply quote to finished card.

The Fourth page: I stamped the (Posh Sketch) with Burnt Sienna on glossy cardstock, watercolor with watercolor crayons and Twinkling H20's and a water brush. Attach another piece of coordinated cardstock to mat the flower stamped design, apply to card. On a separate piece of glossy cardstock, stamp another top section of the same image, watercolor and cut-out all petals. Roll the small petals in your hand to curl, with very small amount of glue place the petals on each of the flowers.

On the Fifth page I cut a small square of glossy cardstock, matte it with a piece of pink cardstock and applied it to the page. Memories Black was used to stamp the (Elegant Poppy) to the card. Watercolors were used to color the flower design. 

The  Sixth page: On a separate piece of cardstock stamp (Spring Tulip Sketch) with Craft Printz, pour gold embossing powder on image, pour off, heat emboss the flower design. The design was cut-out and applied to card. The quote (Flowers are Poetry) was stamped with Memories Black on a separate piece of cardstock, trimmed and applied to card.

The Seventh page: The image (Violet Border) was inked with Burnt Sienna on glossy cardstock, watercolor crayons were used to color the border stamp. I used Mulberry paper (Black Ink) in coordinating color to place behind the stamped image.

Add these scrap pieces to a sack.

Lay out a piece of card stock, watercolor paper or canvas.
Draw a piece of paper from the sack without looking. If it says paint you paint, if it says draw you draw and so on until you like the finished results.

 It was fun making my February 2013 tag using Tim's supplies I had in my stash. Wish I had a small playing card to use on this tag since I didn't have Tim's stamp.

These Tim Holtz/Ranger supplies were used on this tag: Classic #3 stamp, cling arrow stamp,

Cherub Chasing a Heart

 I made this card while waiting to see Tim's February tag. I used one of Tim's TF embossing folder with one of the stamps from Slight Alterations #60. The image was inked with Festive Berries, stamped on the embossing folder and then embossed.

After it was embossed I finished distressing it with iced spruce ink. Cut n' Dry pen nibs were used to paint flowers using festive berries ink pad.
Right before cleaning the red ink from the stamp, I decided to spray it with water and stamp on white paper. The ticket die was used with the inked paper and then stamped with Tim's ticket from Love Struck #82.
Red mat board was used to die cut the cherub and heart. All images were applied using Glue n' seal adhesive.

I didn't notice the wording in the inked embossed background piece until I scanned it, I'm going to ask Tim if those letters were suppose to be visible. Looks like a C A K Y N T in the center near Cherub's left hand. I guess when it's called Slight Alterations he means it. Near his right hand more imperfections. 

Time Flies Again

Can't believe January is almost gone. Time flies when you are having fun.
So far this week we had one hot summer day 76, one stormy days with over 2 inches of rain; Yea! we needed rain and a couple days of cold weather, today's high is 34.

This afternoon I made this tag:
All images are from Viva Las VegaStamps! Ultra high gloss clear embossing powder was used over the Archival inked Time flies and bicycle. Brilliance copper ink was used on the diamond background stamp. The base tag, I used dylusions spray inks and a stencil with gesso. Gears were inked with Archival black ink. Ribbon from Paper Studio was applied with Tim's tiny attacher. Bakers Twine by Sew Easy.
Almost forgot; the ATC and Tag were made with Tim Holtz dies.
Miracle Tape was used to apply ATC to tag.

along with feathered pen collage and blowing dandelion stamp.

Trim white card stock 4" x 5 1/4."

Ink blowing dandelion image with shattered straw distress ink, stamp on white card stock to resemble wallpaper. Trim away a portion of wallpaper for a ceiling effect. Shadow edges of ceiling and corner with a pencil. 

A piece of manila card stock was cut to fit the card to resemble a tablecloth. 1/8" of Miracle tape was applied to May Arts ribbon, remove protective film and applied to the tablecloth to resemble fringe. Set aside.

Before gluing the tablecloth down, turn card upside down, stamp lamp base with archival black for table legs. Color with distress markers. Turn back around and then adhere manila tablecloth. Set aside. 

Stamp antique lamp and feathered pen collage with archival black ink on white card stock. While still wet pour ultra high gloss clear embossing powder on lamp, pour extra off and heat set to a high gloss finish. Cut both images out with sharp scissors. Use distress markers to color lamp and feathered pen collage. Use drawing pencil to add shadow on right of lamp and base of pen collage. Adhere lamp and collage to card front with gel medium. Apply Miracle tape to card front and adhere to green folded card to finish.
